Mural – Tristan Kerr at First Coat

May 26 2017 ABC News interviewed our resident Artist and Typographer Tristan Kerr on location last week in Toowoomba for the First Coat International Mural Festival. Now in its 4th year, we just love everything about this festival bringing public art to regional Australian towns and creating opportunities for both established and emerging artists to be involved. Congratulations Tristan on your invitation to participate and the 38 metre wall you transformed into the magnificent “In Bloom” mural over six days. And congratulations to the team at First Coat for making this all happen.

Traditional Parisian Bistro signage for new Adelaide wine bar

March 31, 2015 Sign-painter Tristan Kerr has completed his hand painted mural and facade art work for Parisian-style bar and bistro La Buvette in Adelaide. A matt black painted exterior elegantly sets off the typical of French Bistro style lettering and wording for the exterior and interior signage and the bar’s overall branding. The mural can be seen high above the bar on the rustic old walls surrounding the bar  “Metro, Boulot, Apero” translates to “commute, work, drink”, a common phrased used in Paris to explain the daily grind.

New Artist – Tristan Kerr

September 19, 2014 I recently met our new artist Tristan Kerr in Paris to talk about his work as a designer, artist and sign-painter, as well as his recent project in Paris with one of the cities last practising hand sign-painters, Jean-Michel Drolon.

Tristan discovered an appreciation for typography and the decorative arts of hand sign-painting and gold-leaf gilding after working in Switzerland as a technician in a renowned screen-print studio, as well as various graphic design studios in Paris.

He now spends a good deal of time engrossed in sign-painting and street art movements in Australia and Europe, where his work is inspired by pop iconography, typography, signage and nostalgic ideas. His commissions spans from the hand-painted Penfold’s global wine campaign to assisting on graphic design projects for Hermés, Paris.

Without any formal art education or training, Tristan’s style and art practice in has evolved through extensive experimentation and research, and has been exhibited in galleries in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
